Most of Ålesund was destroyed in 1904 when a devastating fire ravaged the town. The entire town was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style, which was fashionable at the time. You’ll see plenty of ornate buildings dotted along the waterside as guides tell stories about the town’s history.

We’ll meet our guides in the city center, who will provide us with all the necessary gear. After receiving a safety briefing, we paddle out on the water for an unforgettable tour of the town, stopping off at several points for photo opportunities.

Discover two of the islands that lie in the sea near Ålesund, driving over soaring bridges and through subsea tunnels as we take in their picturesque beauty and hear about their Viking-linked past. 

Our first stop is the island of Giske, birthplace of the Viking chieftain Rollo. In 911 CE, Rollo invaded what came to be called Normandy, and was the great-great-great grandfather of the famed William the Conqueror. We’ll visit the 12th century Giske Church, constructed from white marble for one of Norway’s most powerful families – it’s in a peaceful village location, and we’ll get to see it from the outside, including the graveyard.  

We’ll then drive beneath the sea to the island of Godøy, and the pretty fishing village of Alnes. Here, we stop and investigate the charming red and white lighthouse, which was built in 1876 and is a cherished relic of Norwegian culture. Inside the lighthouse, it is something of a museum and you feel as if you are stepping back in time. If the weather allows us to, don’t miss the opportunity to climb the stairs inside and get a fantastic sea view from the top. Pause here for refreshments and cake in the café and take a wander on the nearby beach. 

After this, our tour brings us back to Ålesund where we’ll take a look at some of its many charms. This compact and pretty town is famed for its Art Nouveau architecture, and your guide will point out some of its lesser-known points of interest by bus and – for those who want to – on foot. After this we return to the ship.

Step aboard vintage ship MS Bruvik for a cruise of Hjørundfjord. This beloved motor ship dates back to 1949 and still features classic décor and a nostalgic onboard ambience. Its comfortable lounges serve refreshments and its renovated outdoor deck is perfect for taking in the dramatic scenery.

The scenic journey passes through majestic Hjørundfjord to the village of Sæbø. Knowledgeable local guides will enhance your experience with fascinating insight into the history of the fjord and its communities.

From Sæbø, we will make our way to Rekkedal Guesthouse. Here, the host who will greet you belongs to the 20th generation of the family running this 16th-century farm. Explore the farmyard and its 500-year-old history before indulging in a memorable meal of local and sustainable products, including carefully paired wine. With our bellies full, we’ll return to Ålesund aboard MS Bruvik, admiring our stunning surroundings along the way.

This guided hike will bring you through peaceful meadows from the fjord side to a traditional shieling in Haukås. Restored in the 1900s, these small farmhouses are nostalgic reminders of a bygone era.

In the past, Norwegian farms were located in the villages and were relatively small. There wasn’t much pastureland around the villages and, come summertime, flocks and herds would need to be lead farther and farther afield to graze on new grass. Shielings were therefore built as overnight accommodation for the farmers and milk maidens, who had to milk the cows far from the farm every morning and evening.

You’ll be greeted by welcoming hosts at the shieling who will talk about life on the farm. Explore the site, try your hand at carrying old milk pails and sample some local produce. Then, if there is time, we’ll stop at the grocers on the way back to Urke before rejoining the ship.

Sailing into The Hjørundfjord, you’ll leave the ship on a small boat (RIB) to travel to the shore. You’ll disembark at the village of Urke, nestled among the scenic Sunnmøre Alps.

From here, a bus brings you through Norangsdalen, one of Norway’s narrowest valleys. Along the way, we’ll see Lyngstølvatnet Lake, which was created when a natural landslide dammed part of the nearby Norang River and flooded the area. On days when the weather is calm, you can still see the ruins of a submerged farmstead from the surface of the water.

We also pass though the village of Øye to see the distinctive Hotel Union Øye. Some of history’s most famous kings, queens, writers, composers, and explorers have all stayed here.

Then, we’ll stop at a small shieling, where you’ll enjoy some snacks and take in the magnificent landscape. The tour ends back in Urke after browsing the goods of the local grocer.

Join us on a spectacular mountain hike in the idyllic Hjørundfjord region. We begin by taking an old farm road, followed by a steep climb up the rugged pathway toward the top. Then, we ascend a stone stairway for the last 1,640 feet. A stunning view will greet you at the summit.

Continue the trail up the hill to see the village of Sæbø and explore an abandoned bear cave.

Before descending, we’ll take a coffee break in the Leknes Valley, overlooking Urke. Here, we’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the fjord arm and mountains. Taking the same road back, we’ll stop off at the local grocer to browse authentic Norwegian goods.

Explore some of Norway’s most dramatic landscapes and see steep mountains plunge into the fjords. We’ll travel by bus from Urke and through the enchanting Norangsdalen valley. Soak in the scenery of the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord from a ferry, before traveling up into the mountains for breathtaking views at Flydalsjuvet viewpoint.  

As we travel on to Eidsdal, you’ll feel like you’re flying as we take ‘The Eagle Road.’ This steep route consists of 11 hairpin bends that offer a spectacular vista at each turn. A ferry transports us from Eidsdal to Linge as we head to the small village of Stordal, where we can enjoy a tasty bite and a drink.  

We end the day in cultural Ålesund, a town best known for its Art Nouveau architecture.

Welcome to Ålesund, one of Norway’s most beautiful towns and a showcase for Art Nouveau architecture. Before exploring the town, we'll visit Atlanterhavsparke – or Atlantic Sea Park – considered to be among Northern Europe’s largest and most unique saltwater aquariums. In a way, it’s an architectural curiosity cleverly integrated into the shoreline. Here you can enjoy close encounters with some of the marine life which lives along the Norwegian coast as well as see other species coming from further afield.   

Wander around and see the spacious pools filled with life. You can even go below and look through large underwater windows directly into the sea to spot species such as cod, saithe, halibut and more. At the time we’ll be there, be sure not to miss feeding time for the otters (2:00pm), penguins (2:30pm) and seals (3:00pm). You’ll also get a chance to try some of the local cuisine when delicious hot catfish cake is served at the café overlooking the ocean.  

Afterwards it’s time to get to know Ålesund. The town was destroyed in a fire in 1904 and subsequently rebuilt in stone, with many creative flourishes in the Art Nouveau style. We’ll take a closer look at some of these interesting buildings, and your guide will explain what life was like in Ålesund in the past, as well as in the modern day. Welcome to the original capital of Norway! Founded as early as 997, Trondheim has been marked by multiple eras. As you explore the city, you can spot colorful old wharves and a 19th-century wooden bridge with distinctive red archways in the Bakklandet district. Our guide will tell you more about the city’s history as the bus takes us through Trondheim’s streets and neighborhoods. We’ll make a short stop at the viewpoint at Utsikten to admire the city from above.

No trip to Trondheim would be complete without a visit to the impressive Nidaros Cathedral. Built over the burial place of St. Olav, the patron saint of Norway, construction of this enormous building began back in 1070. After a guided tour around the cathedral, you’ll likely understand why many describe it as the most beautiful religious building in Norway. You’ll receive your own copy of a book about the cathedral to take home as a souvenir.

A lot of effort has been put into make Trondheim the most bike-friendly city in Norway. The city now has more than three miles of red bike lanes running through its center. Join the bike-loving locals and embark on a relaxing bike tour of Trondheim.

We’ll start from where the ship is docked and cycle along the fjord, before crossing the new bike bridge. This bridge offers some great views of Munkholmen Island, Trondheim’s version of Alcatraz, at one point, this was a prison island, among other things. From here, we’ll cycle through the neighborhood of Ila along the river Nid, where you’ll spot the impressive Nidaros Cathedral.

Entering the vibrant Bakklandet district, we’ll stop for coffee and pastries at one of the many cozy cafés in the area. Heading back to the ship, we’ll cross both the historic and modern parts of the trendy Solsiden area, a former shipyard that has become very popular with the locals.

One of the most unique ways to see the sights of Trondheim is by exploring its waterways. That’s exactly what’s on offer as part of this urban kayak tour along the river Nid, which weaves its way around Trondheim’s charming Old Town. This gentle activity is great fun for families and suitable even for those who have never kayaked before.

We’ll begin by the harbor and glide past the colorful wooden buildings of the wharves before paddling into the city’s smaller channels. Here, you will see some of the most famous landmarks, such as Nidaros Cathedral, Kristiansten Fortress (on a nearby hilltop), and the popular Marinen Park.

The river Nid is also known to be a great fishing spot. You’ll have no trouble finding trout throughout the river—you might even come across salmon in the lower reaches. Every year, salmon here are caught that can weight more than 44 pounds!

Join us on a guided walk through Trondheim and learn all about this historical city. We’ll begin at the harbor, which was developed during the second half of the 19th century. Then, we will walk up to Stiftsgården, the royal residence in Trondheim. Continuing on to the market square, you won’t miss the towering statue of the city’s founder, Viking King Olaf Tryggvason.

From here, we’ll walk to Nidaros Cathedral, where you can step inside Norway’s national shrine. It’s also the world’s northernmost cathedral. Get your camera ready as we pass the old city bridge, Gamle Bybro, with its red, pointed archways. The bridge is known to the locals as ‘The Portal of Happiness’, a nickname coined in a popular waltz by 20th-century Norwegian singer and composer Kristian Oskar Hoddøø. Enjoy the view of the colorful wharves along the river Nid before we make our way back to the pier.

Inhabited since the Viking age, Trondheim is full of culture and fascinating history. Today, we’ll explore two attractions in this ancient city. First, we’ll visit Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s national shrine. This cathedral was built over the burial place of Norway’s patron saint, St. Olav, and features incredible Gothic-style architecture and exquisite works of art. After a guided tour of the cathedral, spend some free time exploring the area.

The bus then takes you to the Ringve Museum of Musical History, where your enthusiastic tour guide will bring Norway’s musical history to life. Surrounded by a gorgeous botanical garden, this stately manor house was the childhood home of 18th-century Norwegian naval hero Peter Wessel Tordenskiold. He distinguished himself during the Great Northern War between Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. The museum is conveniently located just outside Trondheim and is an ideal spot to enjoy views of both the city and the fjord.

Today’s tour begins in the town of Bodø, just north of the Arctic Circle. With around 50,000 inhabitants, this is the second-largest town in Northern Norway. From there, we’ll continue on to Saltstraumen, passing fantastic scenery along the way.

Saltstraumen has existed for around 3,000 years and never fails to amaze its visitors. Here, water speeds reach up to 20 knots. More than 14 billion cubic feet of seawater forces its way through the 500-foot-wide strait every six hours.

After you’ve admired the strongest tidal current in the world, you’ll be given a box of salt flakes produced here. It takes 48 hours to separate the unique minerals from the water. Just like snowflakes, every salt crystal is unique, shaped by the combination of water temperature, the season, and humidity at Saltstraumen. Take the salt back home with you and enjoy this Arctic addition to your cooking.

Join us for a guided walk along the Norwegian coast and gain a deeper appreciation for the country’s dependence on the ocean. Experienced guides will take you on pathways along the shore and across sandy beaches, pointing out interesting views or wildlife species along the way. Perhaps you’ll spot an eagle flying over the sea, or even an Arctic fox foraging for food.

Many Viking graves have been discovered over the years along this coastline. They typically appear as grassy knolls, hiding history and Nordic heritage. Our guides will take you to see one of them. As you walk together, they’ll share their knowledge of Bodø’s history and of the geology of the coast.

A devotion to nature and being in harmony with it is deeply ingrained in Norwegian culture. In Ørnes, we’ll board a bus for a guided tour to the small village of Holandsvik. Along the way, we’ll pass gorgeous scenery and learn more about the surrounding area. At Holandsvik, we’ll board a boat for a 10-minute ride across the fjord.

Then, you’ll arrive at the Svartisen Tourist Center, which has excellent views of the nearby glacier. At approximately 143 square miles, Svartisen is Norway’s second-largest glacier, after Jostedal.

Despite being the lowest-lying glacier on the European continent before the retreat of the last Ice Age, Svartisen has some 60 tongues of ice extending from its main body into the surrounding mountain landscape, which is home to several peaks over 4,900 feet high.

At the Tourist Center, you can also enjoy a warm drink and a buffet of delicious cakes. Afterward, continue your journey along the coast of Helgeland back to Bodø. On the way, you’ll pass Saltstraumen, the world’s strongest tidal current.

Take part in a historical journey from Stamsund to Borg, where the Lofotr Viking Museum is located. Along the way, the guide will talk about what life was like for the Vikings who lived here.

The smell of tar and bonfire greets you as you step over the threshold. Flickering light from oil lamps illuminates the beautiful craftsmanship, ornamentation, and architecture of the chieftain’s home. The chieftain and his wife invite us to enjoy an authentic Viking meal. Watch while the Vikings offer up a sacrifice to the Old Norse gods and pray for good health, prosperity, and safe sailing when the chieftain sets off into the world with his merchandise. You’ll get a genuine glimpse into the Viking Age, with traditional food, costumes, song, and dance.

After enjoying a traditional Viking meal, which is served with mead – the drink of the gods – you’ll be able to look around the longhouse. Then we’ll take the bus to Svolvær and learn more about the history of Lofoten along the way.

Starting in Stamsund, this excursion will take you on a tour of Kabelvåg, one of Lofoten’s oldest fishing villages. Our first stop is Torvdalshalsen, a rest stop with gorgeous views across the fjord. We’ll continue on to Kabelvåg, where the commercial fishing industry began in Lofoten more than 1,000 years ago.

Here, we’ll visit Galleri Espolin, which has the largest collection of the work of beloved artist Kaare Espolin Johnson. Close to the gallery lies the Lofoten Museum, where you can learn about local fishing history.

Kabelvåg’s origins may stretch back to the medieval town Vågar. In the center of the village, you will find the main building, which dates back to 1815, and Vågan Church, also known as the Lofoten Cathedral. The church was built in 1898 in the Gothic Revival style and is one of Norway’s largest churches.

Today, you’ll have the opportunity to experience life on a farm in Norway’s Far North. Aalan Farm is a herb and cheese farm in Lauvdalen, Lofoten run by husband and wife Knut and Tove Åland with some help from their children.

The farm supplies our ships with quality tea and award-winning cheeses throughout the year. This farm is one of our only local food suppliers that you can visit during the cruise. Come along and thank them in person for the delicious cheeses you’ve had on the ship!

At Aalan, you’ll learn all about the reality of farm life. You’ll have the chance to taste cheeses, herbs, and other products that they make from scratch. You can also meet the farm’s goats, dogs, cats, miniature pigs, ducks, and chickens. If you’re lucky, their free-range cow Victoria might also make an appearance.

The Saltstraumen maelstroms have inspired local artists and writers for centuries, and for good reason. Saltstraumen is a strait with the world’s most powerful tidal current. Four times a day, more than 14 trillion cubic feet of seawater forces its way through the strait, which is only 500 feet wide and 100 feet deep. When the current is at its strongest, whirlpools up to 33 feet wide can appear.

Journey with us on a RIB safari to see this natural wonder and find your own inspiration. You’ll sit safely and comfortably in a sturdy rubber boat, operated by a highly experienced and knowledgeable Captain.

During the boat ride, there’s a good chance of spotting sea eagles, as well as other birds and wildlife. You might also notice how some of the exposed rock faces show distinctive patterns. This is the result of the rock being folded under immense pressure, known as Caledonian folding, a process that dates back over 250 million years.

Due to the renovation and rebuilding of Fjellheisen (the cable car in Tromsø), Fjellheisen is not suitable for wheelchair users and guests with reduced mobility at all. There is a long flight of stairs at the top of Fjellheisen and no passenger lift available at the moment.

The base for many Arctic expeditions of old, Tromsø is rich in both culture and history. As part of this excursion, you’ll get to see some of the main attractions of  the third-largest city north of the Arctic Circle.  

Your tour begins with a ride up Tromsø’s famous cable car to the top of Mount Storsteinen (420m or 1.377ft above sea level). Get your bearings as you take in the spectacular views across the city and the fjords, mountains, and islands that surround it. Explore the plateau or have a snack while you admire the view from Fjellstua restaurant.  

Next, we make our way to the magnificent Arctic Cathedral. Dominated by glass mosaic windows, the structure was inspired by Arctic nature and today stands as an icon of the Tromsø skyline.  

Our final stop is Full Steam, the world’s northernmost coastal museum, where you can take a deep dive into the region’s maritime heritage. You’ll learn more about the history, culture, and traditions of the Sea Sami, and their deep connection to the ocean and Arctic environment. You can also admire unique maritime artefacts and read stories of the sailors who braved the treacherous northern waters. Before you leave, be sure to stop by the Northern Lights exhibition to marvel at the aurora through the lens of renowned Norwegian photographers.

Take a walk through Tromsø, where a local guide will tell you all about the city’s history. You’ll meet your guide on the pier where the ship is docked and walk along the shore to the Polar Museum. Along the way, you’ll pass the statue of famed Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, a hunting monument, and the market square, which offers a clear view of the Arctic Cathedral.

The Polar Museum is located in an old customs house from the 1830s. It features exhibits and artifacts that chronicle Norway’s proud polar history and the many expeditions that ventured north to explore the Arctic.

The tour continues along the main street to Mack Brewery and Ølhallen, Tromsø’s oldest pub, where you can enjoy a beer from the world’s northernmost brewery. This pub used to be a popular meeting place for fishermen, hunters, and polar explorers.

We’ll travel by bus above the 71st parallel to North Cape, which rises 1,000 feet from the ocean at the top of Europe.

Gaze in awe at this starkly beautiful scenery as you stand at continental Europe’s northernmost point. Cast your eyes over the sea toward the North Pole.

In summer, you might spot herds of grazing reindeer along the nearby clifftop plateaus. In winter, the unspoiled white plains and snow-capped mountains reflect in the soft Arctic light.

Of course we will stop for the obligatory photo (or selfie) with the iconic globe sculpture commemorating North Cape’s significance.

Take a short boat trip from the historic Viking-era fishing village of Gjesvær and explore the nearby islands of Gjesværstappan. The confluence of warm and cold ocean currents creates nutrient-rich waters, while the steep cliffs of the islands make great bird-nesting sites. This is a paradise for thousands of birds and for birdwatchers. Don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars!

From the boat, we can observe the Finnmark region’s largest flock of puffins and a large number of kittiwakes. During nesting season, this area is teeming with life, as mighty sea eagles hover above in search of prey. Meanwhile, guillemots, razorbills, cormorants, Arctic Skuas, Northern Fulmars, Brünnich’s Guillemots, and the large Northern Gannet fill the air with a cacophony of shrieks and screeches. Discover the amazing story of the Sámi, an Indigenous people living in Europe's northernmost region. Renowned for herding reindeer, their distinctive duodji traditional handicrafts, and their affinity with nature, the Sámi people have a rich culture and history.

Sápmi, as the Sámi people call it, is their territory, which extends from the middle of Norway to the northwestern tip of Russia, including northern Sweden and northern Finland. Life as a Sámi reindeer herder is nomadic, following the reindeers’ instinctive migrations, from the inland plains to the coast in April and back again in September.

On this excursion, you’ll meet a family whose reindeer are at summer pasture on the Nordkyn Peninsula. While the animals graze elsewhere, we’ll gather in the lavvu tent and sit around the glowing fire. Listen to their colorful tales and joik chanting and enjoy a helping of dried reindeer meat. Here, you’ll get a real taste of Sámi life.

Join us as we venture by bus from Kirkenes to the nearby Norwegian-Russian border at Storskog. Along the way, you’ll learn about the eventful history shared by both countries.

Flanked by the scenery of the Siberian Taiga, a vast forest that extends across Eastern Europe for thousands of square miles, our bus will travel across the calm Pasvik River and through the beautiful Pasvik Valley. Rich with flora and fauna, the Pasvik Valley is home to Norway’s largest brown bear population.

We’ll stop at Storskog, one of the most guarded crossings in Europe. Although we’re not permitted to cross over the boundary, we are allowed take pictures.

From here, we’ll travel to Andersgrotta, the largest World War II bomb shelter in Kirkenes. There, we’ll watch a short, fascinating film about locals’ experiences during this tumultuous period.

Before boarding our ship back in Kirkenes, we’ll ascend Prestfjellet Mountain for a wonderful view of the town and surrounding landscape.

Get ready for an exciting two-hour adventure by quad bike, touring the area around Kirkenes, including Norway’s border with Russia.

Our guide will meet us at the quay in Kirkenes and demonstrate how to operate the quadbikes safely and responsibly. Then, we’ll divide into pairs, one pair per quadbike, and begin making our way on the roads out of the town.

Our first stop is a viewpoint overlooking the Sydvaranger iron mine, established in the early 20th century. Your guide will give a brief history of the mine, including its capture, destruction, and subsequent reconstruction during and after World War II.

Then, we’ll head to Skafferhullet, the former Norwegian-Russian border crossing point before it closed in 1966. Here, we’ll take a break and enjoy a hot drink and snack, within view of a few Russian dwellings and a chapel across the border.

On the way back to the ship, we’ll drive up Prestfjellet Mountain to admire the stunning panoramic view.

Our visit to the coolest hotel in Norway begins with a stroll to the hotel and a beverage in Norway’s largest ice bar, where we’ll be greeted and treated to an ice-cold crowberry shot.

The host or hostess will then show us around the hotel. The magnificent Snow Suites are made entirely of snow and ice, featuring furniture, sculptures, and wall carvings crafted by artists from around the world. Each room is a its own gem, with a different theme.

Then, you’ll meet the reindeer that roam the Gabba Reindeer Safari Park and make furry friends at the Dogyard, home to 180 Alaskan huskies and their pups.

Before we leave, relax by the glowing fire in the hotel’s restaurant and enjoy a light bite of local food.

To cap off the trip and if time allows, we’ll stop at Prestfjellet Mountain for magnificent panoramic views of the town of Kirkenes and the surrounding area.

Come and discover why Kirkenes is nicknamed ‘King Crab City’ on this exciting fishing tour. From Kirkenes, we’ll board a small boat (RIB, a rigid inflatable boat) and cruise out on the Barents Sea with an experienced fisherman as our guide.

Red king crabs weigh up to 22 lbs and their legs can span up to 6.5 feet. Watch as the fishermen pulls up cages filled with king crab. You might even be asked to lend a hand to haul them up if they are too heavy for the fishermen.

Then we bring these giant crustaceans to the traditional boathouse beside the beautiful fjord.

See a local chef transform today’s catch into a delicious meal. Feast on as much king crab as you want and savor the succulent white, flaky meat to your heart’s content. Be sure to bring your appetite.

Enjoy a guided exploration of one of the world’s northernmost towns and learn about the historical events that have shaped it. Once we arrive in Hammerfest, the bus will take us to the Museum of Reconstruction for Finnmark and Northern Troms. There, you’ll learn about the massive efforts that were made to rebuild the region of Northern Norway after World War II.

Then, we’ll head over to the Meridian Column, Hammerfest’s UNESCO World Heritage site. This monument marks the northernmost measuring point of the Struve Geodetic Arc, a chain of survey triangulations that established the exact size and shape of the Earth.

Our last stop on the tour is Mount Salen. On the way up the mountain, you’ll learn more about Hammerfest’s unique history from your knowledgeable guide. From the top, you’ll enjoy wonderful views of the town below.

Take a guided hike up Mount Salen, a mountain that rises above one of the world’s northernmost towns, Hammerfest. We’ll set out from the quay and walk to Hammerfest’s distinctive parish church, with a stop at the monument to the Napoleonic Wars. Next, we’ll visit Ole Olsen place, dedicated to the famous composer who was born here, before making our way out of town and following a zigzag path up the mountain.

Walking to the top requires a good level of fitness, but the panoramas from the viewpoint are certainly worth the effort. On a clear day, you can enjoy incredible views of the islands Melkøya, Sørøya, and Seiland down below. Once you’ve taken in the scenery, we’ll take the zigzag path back to the town center and go past the Arctic Culture Centre before returning to the ship.

The North Cape plateau rises 1,000 feet above the Arctic Ocean. Welcome to Europe’s northernmost point. Unlike the travelers of old, who once had to climb up the cliff, we will take a bus from Honningsvåg all the way to the top. You’ll have time to walk the plateau and pose for photos at the globe monument.

Enjoy a lavish breakfast buffet in the North Cape Hall while looking out over the Barents Sea. Then, experience the four seasons of the North Cape through a panoramic film. Inside the cliff at the North Cape Hall, you can buy handmade gifts in the gift shop and tour the chapel and small museum.

We’ll begin our excursion with a short sightseeing tour of the streets of Harstad. This is the third largest community in Northern Norway with a history connected to herring fishing, the military, and in more recent times, offshore oil.

On a clear day, you can spot the Trondenes Peninsula to the north of town. Here, you’ll visit a white 13th-century medieval stone church, the northernmost of its kind in the world. We’ll drop in at the Trondenes Historical Center, which displays objects discovered in the region throughout history, from the early Stone Age through the Viking era and the Middle Ages, to the present day. The museum also has a reconstructed farmstead dating from around 1200 with a granary, forge and stave church.

From Trondenes, the bus will take us for a scenic drive across Hinnøya Island to meet our ferry at the Gullesfjord. On board, wrap your hands around a hot drink and enjoy freshly made waffles and lefse along with fantastic views. The tour then continues along the Sigerfjord by bus to Sortland, where you will rejoin your ship.

A short bus ride from Svolvær will bring us to Hov on the island of Gimsøy. Considered one of the oldest places in Lofoten, the area has boat mounds and tombs from the Viking Age. We’ll visit Hov Hestegård, a horse-riding center on a farm with views of Mount Hoven and the ocean.

Then, you’ll meet your magnificent Icelandic horse and saddle up for a horseback ride along a guided trail to the beach. We’ll follow the white sandy beach by the North Sea, passing remains from the Viking era on our way. During fall and winter, we’ll de through the rugged terrain in darkness amid the sound of the waves and—if we’re lucky—with the Northern Lights above.

The route and the horses are well suited for both beginners and experienced riders. Icelandic horses are known for their calm demeanor and comfortable gait, both at walking pace or at a fast trot.

In 2006, a local beer enthusiast repurposed an old fish-landing facility from 1937 in the center of Svolvær, turning it into the site of Lofoten’s first brewery. On today’s excursion, you’ll meet the brewery’s owner, Thorvadur, and take a tour of the building.

Our guided tour will take you around Lofotpils, the only craft brewery in Lofoten, where you’ll learn all about the beer-making process, from start to finish. You’ll also hear about the history of the brewery, and how the special conditions of Lofoten’s water made it possible to embark on this ambitious enterprise.

At the end of the tour, you’ll taste some of the beer brewed here in a beer-tasting session. All Lofotpils beer is brewed using fresh water from the Lofoten mountains. This gives the beer a fresh and unique taste, offering you the freshness and beauty of the mountains of Lofoten with every sip.

Enjoy the scenery on our bus ride from Sortland to Stokmarknes, the birthplace of Hurtigruten. On the waterfront, you’ll find a full-sized ship encased within a large glass building. This is our very own MS Finnmarken from 1956, which has been lovingly restored and transformed into a museum in honor of the Norwegian Coastal Express.

Hurtigrutemuseet showcases archives, photos, and artifacts chronicling the birth and evolution of the Norwegian Coastal Express, its pivotal contribution to coastal communities, and the impact it had on the transformation of the Norwegian coast. On a guided tour, you’ll get to explore 1956 MS Finnmarken’s bridge, galley, engine room, classic dining room, and cabins. Then, relax in the lounge of DS Finnmarken, a Coastal Express ship from 1912.

Discover this hidden gem on a tour of the UNESCO-listed islands of Vega, which sit south of the Arctic Circle. Venture from Sandnessjøen by boat, through the cluster of islands, islets, and reefs, while our guide explains the fascinating culture of this coastal landscape and its people.

We’ll land at Gardsøy and visit the Vega World Heritage Center, which highlights this 1,500-year-old tradition that is unique to the area. The islanders act as bird guardians for the migrating eider ducks that nest here. They build tiny ‘houses’ for the animals. After the hatchlings have moved out, they collect the highly prized eider down.

At the heritage center, you’ll journey from Stone Age settlements to modern-day fish farming through exhibits and a short film. Admire gorgeous views from the café while enjoying a hot drink and local snack.

We’ll sail back along the idyllic Helgeland coast and end our journey in Brønnøysund.

We’ll travel by bus through the attractive town of Brønnøysund to the foot of Torghatten Mountain. The distinctive hole that pierces its center makes it is one of the Norwegian coast’s most iconic landmarks. According to local legend, the mountain was once the hat of the Troll King, who used it to block an arrow aimed at a young maiden.

We’ll spend about a half hour gently ambling up the mountain’s rugged natural path to where the hole starts. The hole is 115 feet high and runs for 175 yards. It ranges from 50 to 65 feet wide and is even big enough for a Norwegian Coastal Express ship to pass through!

When we reach the hole, our reward will be the fantastic panoramic view of the Helgeland Archipelago below. We’ll take the same route back down the mountain and end our hike with a warm drink and tasty snack.

Your excursion starts from Kongebrygga in Havnegata. We’ll follow the strait north from Brønnøysund, passing by the historic Prestøya lighthouse before heading south through beautiful Torgnessundet. Traveling from Kristiansund, our guides will meet us at Bergtatt and supply us with the necessary gear and give us a safety demonstration. Then, it’s on to an unforgettable journey into the enchanting marble caves.

Mining operations have been taking place here since 1938 and are still going on in other parts of the mountain.

We’ll head to the heart of the mountain and board rafts on the illuminated crystal-clear lake. As we glide along the calm water, we’ll stop to get a taste of the pure water that springs from the rock wall.

Then, our guides will lead us to the Grand Hall for a unique subterranean dining experience. Seated at the candlelit tables, you’ll feast on a warming meat and vegetable stew made from local ingredients. In this magical atmosphere, we’ll watch a fascinating film about the marble mine.

After emerging from our underground adventure, we’ll board the bus and enjoy a short tour of Molde.

Venture to the heart of Trondheim on this exclusive tour of the stunning Nidaros Cathedral, the most important Gothic monument in Norway.

Built over the burial site of St. Olav, the patron Saint of Norway, this impressive sanctuary was constructed from 1070 onwards and was an essential pilgrimage site in northern Europe during the Middle Ages. It remains a popular pilgrimage destination to this day.

Cast your eyes over the beautiful Romanesque and Gothic architecture with its lofty vaults, slender pillars, eye-catching facades, and delicate ornamental decoration carefully cut into the stone. We will climb the winding stairway to discover the enchanting chapel and admire magnificent stained-glass windows.
